5 Channel Partner Updates: Tuesday 30 January 2018

Good morning, channel partners. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

Actually, there are 12 timely updates designed for VARs, managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), independent software vendors (ISVs), telco master agents and telco agents to sip on. Take a look…

12. VMware Layoffs: That’s the rumor, and it surfaces just as VMware shareholders worry about a potential M&A deal involving Dell Technologies.

11. Business Continuity: Arcserve has unveiled a cloud recovery solution with consumer-grade simplicity, the company says. Available through Arcserve UDP Cloud Direct, the new capabilities  are ideal for channel partners and cloud service providers whose customers may lack WAN/bandwidth, have large data sets, and those with limited resources that need secure offsite backup and disaster recovery without additional infrastructure to support growth, Arcserve asserts.

10. Branding: Service Integrators, a London-based service management and ServiceNow automation and integration specialist, has rebranded itself as Unifii. The new name seeks to promote the company’s three key offerings: Innovation, Integration and Implementation.

9. Talent: Key partner-focused hires include…

  • CloudBerry Lab has hired Veeam veteran Doug Hazelman as VP of technical marketing. Hazelman will lead CloudBerry in further strengthening the company’s MSP and customer communities. We’ll share more details today.
  • Erwin has hired Verizon and CA Technologies channel veteran Wendy Petty as senior VP of global sales and services. The move comes only a few weeks after Erwin acquired A&P, a consulting firm in Rome, Italy. The deal is part of a bigger strategy that transforms Erwin into data governance company, CEO Adam Famularo told ChannelE2E at the time. Leveraging Erwin’s software and consulting know-how, all stakeholders in a company can be “empowered to act as data citizens, directly involved in defining the terms, rules and policies that govern data use,” the Erwin team asserts.

8. M&A – Avaya: Avaya has acquired Spoken Communications, which offers Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) solutions. Avaya also announced its partners of the year.

7. M&A – SAP: SAP has acquired Callidus for $2.4 billion, giving the software giant a stronger foothold in front-office software. Callidus, a SaaS-based platform, is designed for businesses that want to bolster their sales and marketing functions.

6. M&A – IT Services: Internap Corp. (a.k.a. INAP), a combination MSP, CSP and colocation provider, has acquired SingleHop for $132 million in cash. SingleHop is a cloud-enabled managed hosting provider. We’ll share more details later today.

5. Network Monitoring: LiveAction, a provider of IT network management, visualization, and analytics software, has released “LiveSP,” a network monitoring platform for global network service providers. LiveSP is a highly scalable, multi-tenant network performance monitoring platform that is application aware, features built-in network analytics, and customizable reporting, the company says. Former LogicNow and GFI Software CEO Walter Scott is CEO of LiveAction, which acquired LivingObjects for the network service provider push in December. Darren T. Kimura, executive chairman of LiveAction, also is heavily involved in the business.

4. Log Monitoring: Humio has unveiled a log management platform that allows service providers to query, aggregated and visualize application data on-premises or in the cloud. CEO Geeta Schmidt, a conference veteran who also  played a key role in Sun Solaris and Java developer adoption, leads the Denmark-based firm.

3. Onboarding: SolarWinds has unveiled Smart Start, an onboarding program that gives customers direct, one-on-one access to experts who help them configure, deploy, and optimize their software to meet business goals. The company also unveiled a new generation of its professional training and certification program, called SolarWinds Academy. We’re checking to see if similar initiatives are under way and/or available for the SolarWinds MSP partner base.

2. MSPs Merge NOCs: Winxnet Inc., an IT outsourcing and consulting firm headquartered in Maine with offices throughout the Eastern United States, has inked a strategic alliance with K&R Network Solutions, a San Diego-based MSP with significant expertise in automation and technical integration. The two MSPs are merging their Network Operations Centers (NOCs) to increase proactive monitoring and resolution capabilities. We’re checking to see if the relationship involved any type of M&A or financial transaction. The two companies met through HTG, the peer group association that ConnectWise recently acquired.
