Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
Actually, there are 14 timely updates designed for managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), IT consulting firms, systems integrators, VARs, independent software vendors (ISVs), telco master agents, and telco agents to sip on. Take a look:
14. Partnership – HCI: Nutanix and Intel are partnering to enable systems integrators and VARs to deliver Nutanix-qualified Intel Data Center Block hardware platforms under the Nutanix Elevate Technology Alliance Partner Program. VARs and SIs who are Authorized Nutanix Channel Partners, will now be able to brand and personalize Intel Data Center Blocks, packaging them with Nutanix software for individual customer deployments. This joint solution is available immediately in the Americas. A worldwide launch will follow. The partnership is initially being supported by Arrow and Tech Data.
13. Partnership – HCI Part Two: HYCU is partnering closely with Nutanix and Lenovo, making it easier for partners to offer HYCU Data Protection for Nutanix-Lenovo in a single transaction.
12. Avaya Financial Results: Avaya’s GAAP revenue was $735 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2018, down $55 million than the fourth quarter of fiscal 2017. Still net income surged to $268 million — up from $27 million in the fourth quarter of 2017. We’re double-checking to see if that figure is accurate, and what drove the surge. The company says demand for its public cloud solutions has been surging.
11. Ingram Micro Financial Performance: Igram Micro sales were $12.04 billion for the third quarter ended September 29, 2018, up 3 percent in U.S. dollars from the corresponding quarter last year. GAAP net income was $94 million, up from $61 million in the corresponding quarter last year. The distributor said the results represented “solid global demand” coupled with a “strong increase in profitability.”
10. SolarWinds SD-WAN Management: SolarWinds has refreshed its network management portfolio. The effort includes SDN management technology, with an eye toward Cisco’s ACI in particular. The upgraded SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor helps customers to manage logical components of their SDN environment, including APICs, tenants, application profiles, endpoint groups, and physical entities, the company says.
9, MSP Contract Win: Hughes Network Systems has earned a statewide contract with the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES). Under terms of the deal, Hughes will deliver Managed Network Services across more than 130 state agencies and affiliated organizations — including counties, cities, school districts and hospitals, the company says.
8. Multi-Cloud Hybrid Storage: NetApp has made multiple moves, including expanded availability of the Microsoft Azure NetApp Files preview, expanded availability of NetApp Cloud Volumes for Google Cloud Platform and NetApp SaaS Backup for Salesforce.
7. IoT Revenue Shortfall: Arlo Technologies, the IoT device spin-off from NetApp, announced a revenue warning yesterday. Shares in the company fell more than 10 percent. Still, the shortfall did not involve demand weakness. Rather, the company pointed to a product delay for its new Arlo Ultra wire-fre security camera system. Global commercial distribution of the camera has been delayed from November 2018 until January 2019, missing the critical holiday season. Arlo blamed the delay on a battery issue from one of its suppliers.
6. Oracle CEO States the Obvious: Oracle CEO Mark Hurd says SaaS is an irresistible force that CIOs can’t ignore, according to a Wall Street Journal interview. Hurd, no doubt, is a sharp guy. He previously predicted that Oracle would eventually rank among the world’s Top 2 SaaS software suppliers. But this latest interview doesn’t break any new ground, nor does it really say how Oracle is uniquely qualified to empower CIOs. 4. M&A – Neverfail Exits IaaS Market: Veeam partner Neverfail (formerly Artisan Infrastructure) is getting out of the cloud IaaS and data protection markets — selling those assets to Online Tech. The deal includes five cloud nodes and assets in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. All Neverfail infrastructure customers will be transitioned to Online Tech for their intellectual property, privacy and compliance needs, the companies say. All existing Neverfail cloud employees will become employees of Online Tech, the announcement adds. Neverfail, formerly Artisan Infrastructure, will continue forward as a software company.
3. Private Equity – IT Consulting Buyout?: Several private equity firms – including h Bain Capital, Blackstone, Carlyle, Apax Partners and Advent – are considering bids to acquire NIIT Technologies, according to Economic Times of India.
