10. Yahoo Acquired: The weekend rumors were true. Verizon is acquiring Yahoo. My one request to Verizon: Please don't screw up Yahoo Finance.
9. Serious Momentum: China's Huawei Technologies grew revenues 40 percent to $37 billion in the first half of 2016, which is even faster than the 30 percent growth the company experienced during the first half of 2015. The key takeaway: Huawei has serious momentum across the smartphone and network infrastructure market -- meaning that Apple and Cisco Systems have serious global competition on their hands.
8. Email Privacy: The U.S. says there’s no legal basis for the government to be required to tell Microsoft Corp. customers when it intercepts their e-mail, according Bloomberg. The software giant’s lawsuit alleging that customers have a constitutional right to know if the government has searched or seized their property should be thrown out, the government said in a court filing, Bloomberg added. The ongoing legal battle is unfolding in U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington (Seattle).
7. AT&T Business Services: AT&T's business services revenues were $17.6 billion in the company's most recent quarter, down 0.5 percent compared with the corresponding quarter last year. AT&T blamed the decline on aging landline phone and data products, lower equipment revenue and foreign exchange pressures, Bloomberg says. But the company generated growth in strategic business services and higher wireless service revenue, the report adds.
6. Big Data Acquisitions: Teradata has acquired Big Data Partnership, a London-based a startup that provides big data solutions and associated training. Financial terms were not disclosed. Meanwhile, WorkDay has acquired Platfora, another big data analytics firm, Platfora announced via blog.
5. Acquisition and Name Change. Gridstore, which focuses on Windows Hyper V-based clouds,has acquired DCHQ, which helps customers to migrate applications to any cloud or container service. The combined company will be rebranded as HyperGrid.
4. Is 50-50 Ownership Foolish?: You've started a business with a peer executive, and the two of you divide the founders equity 50-50. Is that logical -- or just plain foolish?
