Petya, Goldeneye Ransomware Attacks: MSSPs to the Rescue?

Visit MSSP Alert for the latest on today’s ransomware attacks.

As new Petya- and Goldeneye-related ransomware cyberattacks spread worldwide, the attacks reinforce two clear facts: First, the typical business, government organization and/or association is ill prepared for the rapidly changing threat landscape. Second, MSSPs (managed security services providers) are rapidly solidifying their position as must-have partners for modern cybersecurity.

No doubt, thousands of VARs and MSPs are taking steps to bolster their managed security services. But the path to true MSSP expertise isn’t easy. We believe most VARs, MSPs and IT consultants will need to partner rather than build their own 24×7 cybersecurity practice. The reason: Most traditional VARs and MSPs can’t afford to build their own security operations centers. Nor can they afford to compete with some of the top MSSPs that dominate the North American market.

Amid those realities, ChannelE2E is seeing a renaissance in the Master MSP sector — where companies like Infogressive and Carvir leverage third-party tools that help peer MSPs safeguard SMB customers. At the same time, the line between cybersecurity and business continuity companies is blurring — especially since effective ransomware protection involves multi-layered security, backup and recovery.

We’ll share more thoughts soon.
