Intermedia Email Protection Attracts Nearly 500,000 McAfee Users

It's only been 24 hours or so since McAfee became a standalone business. But rivals like Intermedia are striving to steal some of the security giant's thunder.

Indeed, Intermedia says it has moved nearly 500,000 McAfee users onto its Intermedia Email Protection platform. Some of the migrations, no doubt, started when Intel (McAfee's former owner) abandoned selected SaaS security services in 2015. Multiple companies -- from Intermedia to Sophos and more -- launched MSP and VAR migration programs to capitalize on Intel's move.

McAfee has since regrouped and sounds ready to support partners, but Intermedia continues to hammer home the migration story.

Intermedia's Offering

Intermedia Email Protection is a cloud-based service designed to provide small and medium-sized businesses with insights into new attack techniques as they emerge. It delivers "a one-point email security solution with multi-engine protection," Intermedia said in a prepared statement.

Key features of Intermedia Email Protection include:

  • Multi-layer security.
  • Spam detection rate of more than 99 percent.
  • Anti-phishing protection.
  • Ability to create and manage email rules and policies from a single interface.
  • Advanced security insights.

In addition, Intermedia Email Protection bridges the gap between email security and mailbox solutions, company CEO Michael Gold told ChannelE2E. It combines three email scanning engines, Gold said, to deliver superior protection over a single engine.

"Intermedia Email Protection is tightly integrated with the user's mailbox, so administrators can bypass quarantine with the option to send suspicious emails straight to the Junk folder," Gold said. "Very few companies provide both mailbox and email security, and they are unable to deliver this type of flexibility with this level of ease."

The channel is "critical" to Intermedia's success, Gold said. As such, Intermedia is searching for ways to double in size and build its partner base over the next several years.

"Partners can expect high levels of support from Intermedia, with greater enhancements around email, voice, security and backup to help them differentiate themselves in the market," Gold told ChannelE2E. "Whether it be proactive platforms such as Intermedia Email Protection or retroactive backup and file management solutions such as SecuriSync, we are committed to giving partners and their users a comprehensive security services suite that they can trust."

McAfee Becomes a Standalone Company

McAfee yesterday announced its spin-off from Intel Security. The company named Intel Security Senior Vice President and General Manager Chris Young as its CEO and TPG Capital Partner Bryan Taylor as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

As a standalone company, McAfee now serves as one of the world’s largest pure-play cybersecurity firms. It features more than 800 security patents and 200 million consumer users worldwide.
