StorageCraft Technology Corp. has acquired Gillware Online Backup -- mainly for the platform's data analytics capabilities. Gillware's analytics can identify data that should be backed up -- while avoiding data that doesn't require protection, thereby eliminating wasteful storage and resource consumption, the companies claim.

Gillware's technology will reach channel partners in two stages:

  • Effective immediately, Gillware and StorageCraft partners have full access to the products via the Gillware portal.
  • By November, all products will be available globally via StorageCraft’s partner portal.

Gillware has partnered with its new owner for multiple years, and the Gillware data experts team will continue to operate out of an established office in Madison, Wis.

StorageCraft's Recent Moves

StorageCraft, backed by new private equity owners since January 2016, has recruited a new executive team and numerous channel leaders since the change of ownership. CEO Matt Medeiros and several of his lieutenants are SonicWall veterans.

In recent months, the company has rolled out cloud-to-cloud backup technology while also expanding its partner program worldwide. Although StorageCraft has serious momentum with VARs and MSPs, plenty of rivals have gained critical mass with managed services partners.

Financial terms of the Gillware buyout were not disclosed. but StorageCraft indicated the deal was funded by cash flow rather than private equity dollars.
