Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Informatica for approximately $8 billion, marking a strategic move to strengthen its data infrastructure and AI capabilities across the enterprise. The acquisition, which includes Informatica’s core technologies in data integration, governance, and metadata management, is designed to provide a stronger foundation for Salesforce’s AI agent platform, Agentforce, and its broader Customer 360 ecosystem. With Informatica, Salesforce aims to close the gap between AI promise and production readiness by embedding deeper capabilities in data transparency, lineage, and governance directly into its platform. Informatica’s tools will enhance Salesforce’s ability to trace data origin, monitor changes, and enforce policies—critical for both regulatory compliance and responsible AI deployment. These capabilities are expected to become foundational to Salesforce’s Agentforce platform, enabling AI agents to interpret and act on data with greater accuracy and context. The integration will also support Salesforce Data Cloud’s role as a trusted customer data platform, improving the consistency and actionability of enterprise-wide data.Impact Across Salesforce’s Product Portfolio The acquisition is positioned to deliver benefits across Salesforce’s suite of products:Data Cloud will gain enhanced clarity and consistency with Informatica’s MDM and integration tools. Agentforce will be better equipped to operate with real-time, context-aware decision-making. Customer 360 applications will see improvements in data quality that support more precise personalization and automation. MuleSoft will leverage governed and enriched data streams for API connectivity. Tableau users can expect insights backed by a more reliable data landscape. This move also allows Salesforce to accelerate adoption across sectors like healthcare, financial services, and the public sector, where data integrity and governance are especially critical. The transaction, funded through a mix of cash and new debt, is expected to close in early fiscal 2027, pending regulatory approvals. Informatica will continue to build and support its cloud-native, AI-powered offerings while benefiting from Salesforce’s global go-to-market engine. The acquisition is aimed at delivering an end-to-end data and AI platform that enables organizations to scale automation safely and intelligently.
