Meg Whitman Resigns From HP Board: Don’t Misread This

The headlines say Meg Whitman is stepping down from HP Inc.'s board. But plenty of people are misreading that information.

To affirm: Meg Whitman is CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), and she remains in that position. She's simply resigning from sister company HP Inc.'s board. Chip Bergh, CEO of Levi Strauss, will succeed her as chairman of HP Inc.

As for Whitman, she continues to run HPE's day-to-day operations. Still, a rather intriguing rumor has popped up in recent days. It suggests that Whitman is a candidate for the Uber CEO job, which is expected to be filled by September 2017.

However, that rumor may be erroneous. “As Meg has said several times before, she is fully committed to HPE and plans to stay with the company until her work is done,” Howard Clabo, a spokesman for HPE, wrote in an email to Bloomberg.
