IBM has cut contractor positions from its Watson Health, cognitive computing and artificial intelligence teams, according to WRAL TechWire. It's unclear if the cuts, delivered Friday, also involved full-time employees.
The cuts, first rumored on a Facebook page that tracks the company, apparently include some contract workers in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Among the areas apparently hit: Those who joined the company via IBM's $2.6 billion buyout of Truven Health Analytics in February 2016. Truven had more than 8,500 customers at the time of the deal.
The cuts come only a few days after IBM announced Q2 2017 financial results. Overall revenues fell for the 21st consecutive quarter, and cloud revenue growth didn't impress Wall Street. The company had at least two other rounds of layoffs earlier this year, according to reports, though the company typically doesn't formally announce headcount reductions.
