5 Channel Partner Updates: Tuesday 18 December 2018

Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Tuesday, December 18, 2018.

Actually, there are nines timely updates designed for managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), IT consulting firms, systems integrators, VARs, independent software vendors (ISVs), telco master agents, and telco agents to sip on. Take a look:

9. Windows 7 End of Life: DecisionOne Corp. has formed a dedicated "Windows 7 Migration Services" discipline inside of its Project Management Office (PMO). The reason: Windows 7 will reach its "End of Service" date for extended support on January 14, 2020. Once the end date is reached, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7 operating system with any type of patches whatsoever, DecisionOne notes.

8. Oracle Financial Results: Oracle's revenue was $9.6 billion in Q2 of fiscal 2019, essentially flat with the corresponding quarter last year. Net income was $2.3 billion, up 5 percent from the corresponding quarter last year. Although Oracle no longer discloses its IaaS, SaaS and PaaS cloud revenues, anecdotal evidence shows some progress. Oracle's two cloud ERP businesses, Fusion ERP and NetSuite ERP, delivered a combined revenue growth rate of 32% in Q2, CEO Mark Hurd said in a prepared statement. The overall results, generally speaking, beat Wall Street's expectations.

7. Red Hat Financial Results: Red Hat's revenue was $847 million for its Q3 of fiscal 2019, up 13 percent from the corresponding quarter last year. Net income was $94 million, down from $102 million in the corresponding quarter last year. The revenue results were about $5.4 million short of Wall Street's expectations, though profits were better than expected. Our spin? Red Hat's slowing growth could be a warning sign ahead of the company's pending $34 billion sale to IBM...

6. Talent - SD-WANs: Aryaka has hired Deepak Kuma as senior VP, customer success.

Talent - Data Protection: Cohesity, a provider of hyperconverged secondary storage, plans to hire 300 new employees by summer 2019 at its San Jose headquarters, nearly doubling the employee headcount at that location, the company says. More than 70 hires also are planned for the company's Research Triangle Park (RTP) location -- where headcount is expected to double by mid-2019.

4. Talent - Business Process Management: Agiloft has hired Christian Thun as VP of engineering and product management.

3. Vertical Market MSP Momentum: Alphaserve Technologies' legal market digital IT services business grew 20 percent in 2018 vs. 2017,  the New York-based digital IT service provider says.  Alphaserve's overall business supports customers across 300 cities and 38 countries.

2. M&A - Managed Data Centers: DataBank, a provider of enterprise-class data center, connectivity and managed services, has acquired LightBound, an Indianapolis-based provider of colocation, Internet, voice, network and cloud services. We'll share more details soon.
