British MSP Acquisition: CMI Buys BTA Limited

Belfast-headquartered IT services provider CMI has acquired London-based IT specialist BTA Limited.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, both companies were similarly sized. The buyout will give CMI net sales in the neighborhood of £11 million (US$12.1 million) and a staff of 100 working from offices in Belfast, London, and Maidenhead.

The increased scale will allow CMI to gain more access to the UK market, the company said.

The two companies were reportedly introduced at last year’s Kaseya annual European user conference, Connect IT Europe, at the show’s mergers and acquisition symposium.

Operating in the UK for the last 25 years, BTA services include IT support, security and compliance, disaster recovery, cloud technology, and network and internet services. The company has a customer base of 250, including clients from financial, manufacturing, and professional services sectors amongst others.

Ken Roulston, managing director of CMI, commented:

“The acquisition of BTA will create an even stronger IT service provider. We take great pride in providing our customers with the best advice so that they get the most from their IT investment.”

Richard Taberner, managing director of BTA said:

“This is great news for BTA clients and staff as it will allow for an even better IT support service, with more resources and a larger professional services team, with an even wider skillset.”

CMI is backed by Panoramic Growth Equity. Roulston says CMI looked at a range of funding options, deciding Panoramic would fit best operationally, culturally, and in transaction structure.

In 2016 CMI acquired Solsis Ltd, a South England MSP with about 2,500 end-users.
