It’s no secret. Change for data centers is accelerating at a rapid pace and will continue in the years to come--driven by the increasing number of devices connected to the internet, which is facilitating demand for computing capability, storage and networking. According to Gartner’s top 10 strategic technology trends for 2017, these demands will “have substantial disruptive potential across industries.” Ingram Micro’s Emerging Vendor Initiative (EVI) is invested in keeping you, our solution provider customers, ahead of the curve by identifying disruptive technologies to help you digitally transform your business and realize greater revenue and profitability.

Digital Transformation

If you sell into the data center, you know that the traditional data center space is rapidly evolving, making way for the convergence of hardware and software technologies and enhanced management solutions. Digital transformation (DX) is more than just technology. It’s a concept, which at a high level, is defined by IDC as companies leveraging digital competencies to continuously “drive disruptive changes in their customers and markets (external ecosystem) to create new business models, products, and services.”

Digital Transformation Spending

IDC forecasts that worldwide spending on DX technologies will be more than $1.2 trillion in 2017, and  will continue to grow at an accelerated pace, reaching $2.0 trillion in 2020. The biggest areas of DX spending in 2017 will be connectivity services, IT services and application development and deployment (AD&D). Combined, they’ll account for half of all DX spending in 2017.

And according to the IDC report, “More than half of all DX investments in 2017 will go toward technologies that support operating model innovations. These investments will focus on making business operations more responsive and effective by leveraging digitally connected products/services, assets, people and trading partners. Investments in operating model DX technologies help businesses redefine how work gets done by integrating external market connections with internal digital processes and projects. The second largest investment area will be technologies supporting omni-experience innovations that transform how customers, partners, employees and things communicate with each other and the products and services created to meet unique and individualized demand.”
