Cognizant Acquires Life Sciences Firm Zenith Technologies

Cognizant, the IT services and digital consulting giant, is acquiring Zenith Technologies, a privately-held life sciences company from Cork, Ireland.

Zenith specializes in implementing digital technologies to manage, control, and optimize drug and medical device production for maximum operational efficiency and regulatory compliance, the company said.

This is Cognizant’s second Irish acquisition in just three months. The company also acquired Dublin-based financial services software company Meritsoft for an undisclosed amount.

Zenith, founded in 1998, has more than 800 employees working from 16 locations around the globe. All of its employees will join Cognizant’s Life Sciences business unit, the company said.

Zenith counts nine of the world’s 10 largest biopharmaceutical manufacturers amongst its clients. In 2017, General Electric took a 30 percent strategic investment in the company through its subsidiary, GE Healthcare Lifesciences.

Joe Haugh, Chief Executive Officer, Zenith Technologies, commented:

"In joining Cognizant, we are bringing together two respected life sciences service provider brands with complementary technology and manufacturing operations expertise. It's an exciting time for us, with the life sciences industry embracing digital transformation to enable more flexible and efficient manufacturing facilities to bring new treatments to market faster.”

Cognizant began as the in-house technology unit of Dun & Bradstreet in 1994. The company’s main competitors are firms like Accenture and India’s Tata Consultancy Services. Cognizant recorded revenues of $16 billion last year.

The company is helmed by chief executive Brian Humphries. Humphries led Vodafone Business in the United Kingdom before joining Cognizant in April 2019 to succeed Francisco D’Souza.
