Veritas Rolls Out Subscription-Based Data Management Suite Under a Single License

Data storage company Veritas Technologies has announced a new product that packages all of its data management technology under a single subscription license.

The Veritas 360 Degree Data Management Suite makes it easier and less expensive to modernize all aspects of data management, whether on-premise or in the cloud, the company said in a statement.

The move comes as Veritas continues to play catch up with cloud competitors that have long offered subscription-based plans. Veritas was a dominant storage company during the client-server era, but it was slow to keep up amid the shift to cloud and mobile services. Numerous backup companies have since emerged, including multiple players that have strong MSP followings.

Former parent company Symantec last year sold off Veritas for a steep discount, in a move both companies said would make them more nimble. However, significant layoffs followed for both companies.

In the statement, Veritas said the 360 Degree Data Management Suite will make data more visible, accessible and mobile while also freeing up IT resources to focus on big-picture projects.

For service providers and channel partners, the product offers new revenue opportunities and the chance to reach new customers with customized backup-as-a-service, recovery-as-a-service and storage-as-a-service offerings, the company said.

Taking the Next Step

The new product suite is the next logical step for Veritas following the 2016 launch of 360 Data Management, which combines data visibility, data protection, storage optimization, business continuity, compliance and data/workload portability for hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

The 360 Degree Data Management Suite is less expensive than buying Veritas products separately and accounts for fluctuating demand, according to the company. It is licensed per terabyte of data and priced on a subscription basis, although specific pricing details have not been released.

The Suite is available in three editions:

Veritas says all three plans offer an easy upgrade path from NetBackup, or just a path to greater data storage capacity.

Modernizing with Google

Veritas has undertaken other modernization efforts this year.

In March, the company announced an expanded partnership with Google to provide joint customers with 360 Data Management capabilities that “reduce data storage costs, increase compliance and eDiscovery readiness and accelerate the customer's journey to Google Cloud Platform.”

In addition to joint sales and support activities, the companies said they would work together to develop and deploy solutions that help organizations extract new business value from their data. The effort builds on existing innovations that Veritas and Google Cloud have developed.

Despite its late foray into cloud and subscription-based technologies, Veritas maintains an impressive customer base of large enterprises, including 86 percent of global Fortune 500 companies.
