Unisys Layoffs 2017: 178 Employee Staff Cuts

Unisys plans to close a client services center in New York, and will shift the workloads to a center in Augusta, Georgia, according to a company disclosure. Roughly 178 employees will be affected, though the employees can apply for any open position within Unisys for which they are qualified, according to Democrat & Chronicle. The job cuts will start in May and wrap up by December 2017, Unisys indicated.

Unisys has reinvented itself multiple times over the past four decades, but achieving near-term growth has been challenging. Revenues were $721.7 million in Q4 2016, down from $789.9 million in Q4 2015. The vast majority of Unisys's revenues now come from services across government, financial services and commercial customers -- and top-line services revenues also fell in Q4 2016.

Still, the company's full-year 2016 results were in line with full-year guidance on revenue and non-GAAP operating profit margin, and ahead of full-year guidance for adjusted free cash flow, the company asserted.

Generally speaking, Unisys continues to partner with some of the largest hardware, software and cloud companies -- from Amazon Web Services to Microsoft, IBM and VMware, just to name a few.

Although the overall IT market remains healthy, a growing list of companies -- including CompuCom, HP Inc., Microsoft and Oracle -- have confirmed targeted layoffs for 2017.
