Global IT provider PhoenixNAP has added Carbonite's DoubleTake replication solution to the company's Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) portfolio.

PhoenixNAP, also a VMware partner, says the cloud-ready DoubleTake option will help customers meet their disaster recovery and business continuity goals by improving the resilience of their digital assets. The solution will also help reduce costs and decrease management overhead, according to PhoenixNAP.

“Compared to traditional snapshot-based DRaaS solutions, replication takes less space for storage and the process of recovery is much faster. This is important for businesses with high RTO and RPO requirements,” Bojana Dobran, Senior Marketing Specialist, PhoenixNAP, tells ChannelE2E.

DoubleTake adds to PhoenixNAP's existing DRaaS strategies, according to Dobran. "PhoenixNAP has other DRaaS solutions in place, but it needed a technology that better focused on physical hardware backups, especially in systems such as databases that have a high change throughput," she said.

The DoubleTake solution comes with a flexible Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and a flexible Recovery Point Objective (RPO) to help companies meet their recovery targets. The goal being to improve availability, disaster recovery efficiency, and migration and data sharing options

The solution will also help reduce costs and decrease management overhead, according to PhoenixNAP. “By using reliable replication services, companies ensure their data is available to them in all scenarios and they will not become a victim of a cyber-attack,” says Dobran.

Carbonite acquired DoubleTake from Vision Solutions and Clearlake Capital in February 2017 or $65.25 million in cash and stock. The deal expanded Carbonite's Windows- and Linux-focused portfolios for SMB customers, especially those in the midmarket.

Dozens of companies compete in the DRaaS sector. There’s been a flurry of activity in the sector of late, including:

The global DRaaS market is expected to reach $11.11 billion by 2021, up from $1.68 billion in 2016. That's a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 46 percent, according to Markets and Markets. PhoenixNAP says customers increasingly understand the need for DRaaS to address and mitigate cyber risks to their businesses.

PhoenixNAP opened its flagship data center in Phoenix, Arizona in 2010 and has grown to a global company since that time. Today, the company boasts data centers in six locations in the US, Europe, and Asia.
