Good morning, channel partners. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Friday, September 2, 2016.

Actually, there are 11 entries for VARs, managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) and telco master agents and telco agents to sip on. Take a look…

11. Hurricane Hermine: To our readers in the storm's path -- please stay safe, and thanks to those who have sent us updates as they ride out the storm.

10. Up for Sale?: ChannelE2E continues to closely track the potential sale of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's software business and Intel's McAfee security business, respectively. If any developments occur over the U.S. holiday weekend, we'll be sure to update ChannelE2E with the latest milestones.

9. Hot Stuff: Samsung has recalled Galaxy Note 7 devices in 10 markets after the smartphones suffered from battery fires. The company hasn't disclosed how many units are involved in the recall.

8. IoT Investments Cooling Off?: Thomas Siebel has raised $70 million for his Internet of Things company -- but a report about the funding suggests venture capital investments in the IoT market is cooling off. The IoT market is certainly real but it's difficult to pinpoint a true market size since just about every IP-enabled device, sensor and analytics system often is lumped into the conversation...

7. Desktop as a Service: Connectria Hosting has launched Citrix Cloud Services, a pre-built Citrix XenApp environment that starts at $99 per user per month. This is the latest in a growing list of recent Desktop as a Service (DaaS) and Workspace as a Service (WaaS) industry moves. Amazon recently announced additions to its WaaS pricing models. Also, Neverfail (formerly Artisan Infrastructure) recently acquired and rebranded a WaaS service for MSPs; and several other rivals are negotiating potential exits and/or funding deals, ChannelE2E has learned.

6. Cloud Distribution: Ingram Micro Cloud has agreed to distribute DevTech's vPoint, a multi-cloud orchestration solution that simplifies the way cloud infrastructures are created, managed, consumed and grown, the company claims.

5. Cisco Big Data as a Service: Pushing beyond the Hadoop-as-a-Service conversation, Cisco is lining up partners to help focus on Big Data as a Service. Among the companies to watch: BlueData, which promotes Big Data as a Service using Docker containers.

4. More IBM Layoffs: The latest IBM cuts apparently impact Research Triangle Park and additional locations...

3. Security Operations Centers (SOCs): Capgemini has launched a new generation of Managed Security Operations Center (SOC) services, housed in India, in collaboration with IBM Security, according to DataQuest. The move comes as a growing list of network operations center (NOC) providers extend or rebrand into the SOC market.

2. PSA Meets BI (Again): FinancialForce has delivered FinancialForce Wave for Professional Services Automation (PSA), an app powered by Salesforce Wave Analytics. The app allows PSA users to gain business intelligence across the entire organization from any device, the company claims. FinancialForce claims to be the fastest-growing provider of cloud-based PSA. Meanwhile, the lines between PSA and BI have been blurring. Atera, for instance, offers an integrated PSA-RMM-BI platform. And companies like BrightGauge and MSPCFO offers BI tools that integrate with PSA offerings.

1. Holiday Weekend: ChannelE2E and our parent company, After Nines Inc., will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, for the Labor Day holiday. We wish our U.S. readers a relaxing three-day weekend.
