Good morning, channel partners. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to sip on for Thursday, July 14, 2016.

Actually, there are 22 entries for VARs, managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs) and independent software vendors (ISVs) to sip on. Take a look…

22. Talent Management: Continuum has named Ai-Li Lim as senior VP, Human Resources. The 1,250-person company is in hiring mode and expects to recruit more than 200 employees into the business during the second half of 2016, according to CEO Michael George. Continuum develops NOC (network operations center), RMM (remote monitoring and management) and BDR (backup and disaster recovery) services to MSPs. The company has major footprints across New England, Pennsylvania, Texas and India, among other locales. Lim has extensive HR experience, having previously worked at Boston Beer Company, VistaPrint and Fidelity.

21. Wildfire Ransomware Alert: OpenDNS says Wildfire Ransomware is catching on, and offers up details about the issue here. On a related note, join us for “Not Your Typical Ransomware Webcast” later this month, featuring MSPs and MSSPs describing how they combat the issue for customers.

20. Breach Prevention: Breach Secure Now! has released its Breach Prevention Platform, a suite of security tools to help MSPs reduce the likelihood of their clients having a data breach, the company says.

19. NOC Talent: INOC, a 24×7 Network Operations Center, has named Jim Martin to the position of VP of Technology. Previously Martin was director of operations at the Internet Systems Consortium; principal consultant at DeepDive Networks; and an IP Architect at Woven Systems, which was later acquired by Fortinet.

18. Auvik Networks: We’re watching them. Closely…

17. E-Rate Wins: Specialty distributor Securematics, Inc. says its E-Rate Advantage Program has empowered channel partners to secure more than $5 million in annual contract revenues to date. Announced in August 2015, Securematics E-Rate Advantage Program makes it easier and more profitable for channel and vendor partners to compete for K-12 business, the company asserts.

16. Eye On Cuba: Will service providers emerge in Cuba? That remains to be seen. But a third U.S.-Cuba regulatory dialog took place in Havana on July 12-13. According to a U.S. Department of State comment:

“The U.S. delegation included officials from the Departments of Commerce, the Treasury, and State, and continued discussions from previous dialogues held in October 2015 and February 2016. U.S. officials described regulatory changes that were announced on March 16 related to Cuba-related travel, commerce, and financial transactions. The delegations addressed ways the two nations can work together within existing U.S. laws and regulations.”

15. Distribution: The Global Technology Distribution Council announced the addition of ELKO Group and TIM AG as its newest members in the EMEA region, plus the appointment of WestconGroup CEO Dolph Westerbos to the organization’s Executive Committee. GTDC members drive more than $130 billion in annual worldwide sales of products, services and solutions through business channels.

14. Managed Azure Cloud Services: NaviSite is the latest midmarket MSP to introduce managed multi-cloud services for Microsoft Azure. For more news from this week’s Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2016 (WPC16), see our complete multi-day coverage.

13. MSPs Mastering Customer Data?: More than 50 percent of IT service providers customers’ IT performance, 81 percent of whom are able to use the data to proactively improve service delivery. Yet only eight percent have put in place automated processes for transforming data into actionable recommendations. Those conclusions, and more, surfaced in a LogicNow survey of its MSP customer base. Not by coincidence, LogicNow has been promoting LogicCards — a big data and machine learning system that gathers data, and helps MSPs to pinpoint additional revenue opportunities.

12. Analytics Partner Program: Sinequa, which specializes in Cognitive Search and Analytics, has launched the Partner Advantage Program to further expand its ecosystem of consulting firms, systems integrators and technology alliances.

11.  Next Veeam Suite: Veeam Suite 9.5, coming later this year, will “fully integrate with Windows Server 2016 and Hyper-V technologies used in the data center,” the company asserts. Hmmm… why announce the product months before release? Perhaps to freeze the market amid intensifying competition…

Wait. That’s not all. Check out Page 2 for our items 10 to 1. We promise: We’re not sending you to a slide show.
